Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates the skin. This 5% lactic acid formula delivers ultra-mild exfoliation and is powered by purified Tasmanian peppermint known to reduce signs of inflammation and sensitivity often associated with exfoliation.

This formula contains a studied Tasmanian pepper derivative to help reduce irritation associated with acid use. This derivative is of plant origin and varies in color seasonally and this color difference may be evident in the formulation from time to time.

Contraindications: Lactic acid should not be used on sensitive, flaky or compromised skin. Please refer to the note for additional sun protection and other warnings in the instructions provided.

The pH of this formulation is approximately 3.8. Lactic acid has an acid dissociation constant of 3.8. The acid dissociation constant is the most important aspect to consider when forming acids. The acid dissociation constant means the availability of acid. When the acid dissociation constant approaches pH, there is an optimal balance between salt and acidity, which increases the effectiveness of the acid and reduces irritation. A high pH in such a case may result in excess salt making the formula more irritating than if the formula were more acidic.

Note: While lactic acid can produce quick visible benefits, we generally suggest using indirect forms of skin exfoliation in favor of direct forms like this formula due to the potential inflammation and sensitivity associated with acids.
